Why Maple Lake Inspires Our Name
The Bakehouse at Maple Lake is more than a name—it’s a heartfelt tribute to the place that shaped our story.
Maple Lake, once known as the South Park Extension and later Maple Street Lake Park, was located between South Linden Road and Oakwood Drive. In the early 1900s, it served as a vibrant neighborhood gathering spot where families enjoyed picnics, rowboat rides, and seasonal celebrations.
Though the lake itself no longer exists, the sense of community it fostered lives on. At The Bakehouse, we chose the name Maple Lake to honor that legacy of warmth, tradition, and local connection.
This place—and its memory—helped shape not just our name, but also our mission. The spirit of Maple Lake continues to influence how we serve our customers and build community through handcrafted baking.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to local historian Tim McKee, whose writing brought the history of Maple Lake to life and inspired this connection.
